ntbackup performance

I have 2 separate systems, similar configuration. Both Microsoft Small Business Server Standard editions performing a nightly ntbackup to an external disk drive (same make and model both systems). One backed up 47GB in 2 hours. The other took 5 hours to back up 17GB. Where should I look to determine the bottleneck? Thanks!
