Ntuser.Dat, Userdata

I have a issue with log on.. at the log on screen After putting in my credentials i get a blue screen it stays at applying computer settings or applying personal settings? I am connecting to a domain, however profile runs locally on the pc. I am running windows xp sp3. I have about 10 computers which only one is causing the problem they are all connected to the same domain. I also have admin rights on all the pcs, I have logged on a different pc no issues.. can ntuser.dat or userdata be causing the problem? any ideas would be helpful.. where are the files or registry keys for log on in windows xp sp3 is it ntuser.dat userdata?can this be edited? woud like to get to the souce of the issue. Thanks a lot

P.S – deleting the profile and recreating it does solve the issue but what is the cause?
