odd little thing

two servers, one is w2k and the other is w03sbs
both installed on same box at various times. Each one developed the same odd problem; net connections folder suddenly goes empty, but the settings stay the same. No way to access the settings, they are just gone. If no changes are needed there is no problem, however……
AV is TMCSS Enterprise and reports clean sys
all network shares available,but not visible in server-everyone else sees fine. Repair install solves problem, but had spent a frustrating week trying to solve before resorting to install in place. Followed all advice from MS kb, many forums, etc-worked with cmd, netsh, all of the command line options and all to no success.
So, has anyone else come across this?
