I’ve been working on this problem for a while and in of assistance. The pc I have has spyware and trojans on it. While in the middle of scanning to remove items, the computer restarted and from that point on would not boot into windows xp. I attempted to boot into safe mode and couldn’t. I attempted to go back to the last time it was working but I couldn’t do that either because I disabled system restore. I put in an xp cd, booted from the cd to get into the recovery console to repair the registry. I selected the drive with windows on it and was prompted to put in the admin password. I know for a fact the admin account does not have a password, I hit enter to bypass and it tells me it’s incorrect. My computer is a gateway and it came preinstalled with windows xp media center… I’ve searched high and low for solutions as you can see I haven’t found one. What can I do besides reformatting?
