Onboard LAN issues

by jingham . Updated 18 years, 4 months ago

I recently purchased an ASROCK P4i65G intel 478 socket motherboard. It has onboard LAN, Video and audio as well as one AGP and 3 PCI expansion slots. Around the middle of February I got a nasty virus and had to reformat and do a clean install of XP. The support CD that came with the motherboard used to list all available device drivers to install but no longer lists the LAN driver. Windows XP brings up the “Found new hardware” message but when I try to select the proper driver Windows says it isn’t the proper driver for the device. I have also disabled the onboard LAN in the bios and installed a d-link 538 tx card in one of the available PCI slots. However, while Windows successfully installs the device I am still unable to get an internet connection. I am connected to the internet through a router and the router is registered on my ISP’s end. (Note that my roommates computer works fine on the net through the router) I have an nVidia mx4000 card installed in the AGP slot but no other hardware is present in the expansion slots. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
