opening html and mhtml e-mail documents

Whenever i try to open html and mhtml documents or files sent over the internet or already on my computer they do not open properly but just come up giberish. I’ve tried downloading some things to remedy this but nothing seems to work. Thanks for any suggestions that you might have. TQ.
