Optical Mouse Problems – Windows XP

The problem I am currently having is that my optical mouse (Logitech MX-510 Performance Optical Mouse) will freeze from time to time for about 5-10 seconds, and I usually have to pick it up and put it back down a few times to “wake” it back up again.

I’m wondering if because the mouse is 3 years old now, if it’s just dying on me, or what might the problem be otherwise.

It’s never locked up completely, but it’s very frequent, and it’s making gaming hard to enjoy.

I’ve tried it on the USB port, as well as the PS/2 port and it’s doing it on both.

Is it just old, or could it be something else?
