Outlook 2003 problem

I recently started having problems with Outlook 2003 with the “Enter Network Password” popup window coming up every time before a new email could be downloaded. Even if I have it set to save this password in my password list, it continues to pop up. I thought I just needed an update but then someone told me today that it was a virus that was causing this problem. Has anyone heard of this and know how to fix it?
