Outlook express took away emails from my original server!

I just started using outlook express on my computer,
and after i clicked ‘send/receive,’ i got all my emails from the original mail server (which is my school email service) to outlook express.
but once i logged in to my original school server, there were NO emails left!
how do i get all the emails back in my original server??
