Outlook Journal limitations with Exchange Server 2007

We’re having an issue with Microsoft Outlook Journal tracking entires with Exchange Server 2007

Does anyone know if:
-you can use older versions of Office with EX 2007?

-you can use Outlook Journal to track files from a file server?

–Outlook Journal can track files from older Office versions?
