I am currently in the first phases of testing Outlook Web Access. I am now at the point where I have it up and running on our internal network (I can access both the IIS 4.9 default page, and the Exchange server login from within the network using the IP address). This is what the test box looks like:
NT 4.0 SP6a
Exchange 5.5 SP3
IIS 4.0
I understand it’s not W2K or Exchange 2000, etc. I am not interested in that kind of advise yet. I just want to show my boss that it can be done beforewe update it all.
We are using NAT in the office. The boss has mapped his IP address (through the Netopia router) to the single useable static IP address assigned to the DSL circuit so that he can use PCAnywhere (it works). I shut him down and used his IP address on the exchange server. I then had a remote user try to access the exchange server using the IP address. It did not work. He could ping the IP address, but was not able to even access the IIS 4.0 default page through his browser. What do I need to do? I also understand that I have no proxy server or other means of protection. I am simply trying to get the basic system running. Once that’s done, I can start to upgrade and improve as needed. But right now, I need the starting point of a functional OWA server to build upon.
Thank you.
