Outlook wont connect to Exchange Server

Hello,

I just purchased a new HP computer with Outlook 2007. I am trying to connect to my school’s exchange server (2003), but it keeps telling me that Outlook needs to be connected to the internet. I was wondering if anyone could point my in the right direction. There are so many things online and I am not that well versed when it comes to exchange servers.
