PAM Authentication Failed

Hi, Iam getting the following error when startx
command is issued

$startx

Fatal server error:
PAM authentication failed, cannot start X server.
Perhaps you do not have console ownership?

Couldn’t get a file descriptor referring to the console

Kindly help me to solve this error
