Dell Desktop 4550/XP Home
Dell Laptop 5160/XP Home
LinkSys Router WTR55AG Dual Band
This is a File Sharing question with a Desktop running XP Home and a Laptop running XP Home. I am having no problems with my Router. I am able to see both computers from either side. I can share files and print from the Laptop. The problem is I can not see all of the drives on my Desktop in “My Network Places” from either computer even though I have granted share access to them.
I have multiple partitions, (A:\ thru K:\) on my Desktop and I am unable to see my “H” or my “K” drive. Now, it gets a little more complicated. During my network setup process I have changed the computer names several times. Also, I have actually changed drives G:\ thru L:\ by re-partitioning the back half of my Desktop hard drive. What I did was combine my G:\ and H:\ drives to become my G:\ drive. Therefor “I” became “H”, “J” became “I”, “K” became “J” and “L” became “K”. So… I no longer have a “L” drive. “J” and “K” are now my CD-RW and DVD-RW drives respectively. Again, I cannot see my “H” or “K” drives in “My Network Places” from either computer.
Now,when I go to “Computer Management” and click on Shared Folders> shared, I see all the drives including “H” and “K”. I just can’t see them in “My Network Places”.
Ok, one more thing to note: When I do go to share a drive, I am unable to edit the comments section of the “Network sharing and security” section of the “Sharing” tab.
If you have any ideas, please let me know. Thanks, Todd
