Pavilion zx5000 CTO Power problems

I plug in my laptop and sometimes the ON light will appear and when it doesn’t, I jiggle it around just a bit and it will come on. Could it be my AC Adapter or where I plug it in the computer? I have a Pavilion zx5000 CTO. I talked to a local repairman to get an idea of the cost to repair and he said he wouldn’t even do a repair because it was where the adapter plugs in that was bad and it would cost several hundred dollars to get it repaired elsewhere. Is he right or just does’nt know much about repairing computers? Thanks for any help you can give.
