PC2100 & PC2700 DDRram

Hello,
I have a question about DDRram. I was wondering if I can use a stick of 512mb PC2700 DDRram and a stick of 256mb PC2100 DDRram on the same computer. I am not sure what the PC numbers mean and if the are interchangable.
