I’ve got a couple of servers that I recently replaced and installed the latest updates from MS. The problem seems to have occurred in the last 4 updates (KB930178, KB931784, KB932168, KB925902)as I have servers with up to this update installed with no issues. When I map a drive to a share on the local server (ie. this server), whenever I try to launch an exe or msi, or edit a bat file from either the UNC path of this share or through the mapped drive letter I get a permission denied error. It’s occurring at the same time as you would normally see the open file – security dialog box where you just hit run. I traced back through all of the updates on a new server of the exact spec (Server 2003 R2 SP2 Standard), however I don’t have the problem specified in the situation above. What I ended up having to do was add the local server to the local intranet site in IE 7. Does anyone know which update this might have been? Or has anyone else had this problem?
