Please note that I am only a CAD System Specialist so my background into domain controllers, Active Directory, and Servers in general isn’t my specialty but due to some slow times we laid of the NA and I am to help out for the time being.
I have just set up a XP Pro laptop as I have done many times in the past while helping out the NA while he was still here. When I log myself in, administrator, I am able to get proper rights to access the local machine as required. When I log the user in, power user along with other company specific, I do not have sufficient rights to so much as delete an icon from the desktop or run programs as I do not have rights to C:\Program Files. What I don’t understand is that his login worked on his previous WIN 2000 laptop, and also he can log into other XP Pro laptops without any problems. I verified in Active Directory that he looks excatly like his others in his group. I also checked a machine that I know the previous NA setup, and the same problem arose so I know that it doesn’t have to do with how I setup the machine.
When I check to see which groups are in use, it appears as though it isn’t recognizing the following groups: ACRO\Stat_286, ACRO\Domain, Computers, ACRO\Domain Users, and some various other company specific groups. How do I fix this so that it recognizes these groups and applies the security from AD? From what I understand, doesn’t AD give you all the permissions and how could something override that on one machine and not on the other? I guess not fully understanding the entirety of the system doesn’t help here.
