Phantom Print Jobs

by tenneyl . Updated 24 years, 11 months ago

I work in a school district with many networked HP printers. Lately, many of them have been printing phantom print jobs wasting up to 150 sheets of paper per job. Other local school districts are having the same problem. As far as I can tell, these are the common traits:

– The printers all have IP addresses.
– The first line of the first sheet of each job has aa line of garbage, the only really readable part says “nsecurity.”
– The remaining pages all have just one character on them, usually a “1.”
– This occurs on Netware and NT networks.
– The print jobs do not show up in network queues.
– Generally the jobs run overnight or early morning.

Obviously, we can turn off the printers at night or pull paper trays to prevent paper waste. I’m looking for a possible cause. Is this occurring anywhere else?
