Philips cdrw

I need a little (a lot?) of help on a Gateway P5-166. Customer bought equipment that he could not get to work properly. Reads fine, but will not write to the disk. He is just at system minimums as stated on the box..94 meg open on h.d. and 32 meg memory. However, instructions on manual on driver disk suggest 266 min. proc.
The error on attempting to write to the disk is system hang with explorer not responding after ctl/alt/del.
Machine using windows 95. (non b)
