Ping a novell server

I am running windows 2000. I can ping other computers on the network. We have a Novell file server on the network. I cannot ping that server. I can ping the windows server though. When I try “ping {servername}” I get “unknown host {servername}”
Not quite sure how to start troubleshooting this.
