Please help regarding structured cabling.

Hi friends,

I am trying to do a kind of structured cabling at a new site of my office. As I have not done cabling ever in my life I am having some problems.

I have a wireless ADSL router in Building 1 and currently all the users in Building 1 and Building 2 are connected via wireless but I need to hard wire them. I layed CAT 5E cables from building 1 to building 2 and used the normal UTP RJ45 Cat5e Module box next to every computer in building 1 and building 2.

From building 1, I am using a uplink cable from the router to the module box and the cable is running all the way to Building 2 directly in the switch ( I have tried Cisco 3550, alcatel as well as a Belkin 8 port switch ). The problem is that the activity/connectivity led in the switch does not light up so there is no internet in the switch. I have checked all the cables through a network tester and it shows that the cable is fine.

The cable from building 1 is directly going in the switch without the patch panel.

I am not sure what the problem is but I suspect that I might need a patch panel to terminate the cable.

Can anyone please help me, I need to get everything up by tomm. Any kind help really appreciated.

Thanks
