I am an in-house trainer for a company that has appox 2000 employees. Training end users mostly in MS Office apps, with some healthcare specific apps. Training sessions are scheduled and posted, participant fills out registration for class and the form is then signed off by supervisor. When I came on board the reg form was already in place, I didn’t see any need to change it. I “assumed” that the supervisor signature was for staffing coverage and information that his employee was attending training. I have been running into particpants who want to take a class to improve their current employable skills but their supervisor is not “approving” the request because the tech training has nothing to do with their current job. Example: a custodian who doesn’t currently use a computer but would like to be able to apply for other jobs in the company that require computer skills.
There is currently nothing in place guiding this as the in house training program is new.
What are other companies doing and what is some of the verbage that is used?
I’d like to develop a policy that encourages folks to learn new technology skills regardless of their current job, but I’m going to need an outline developed as I take it up the ladder.
Also any companies addressing company provided end user training skills that are primarily used at home?
I believe that even those skills used at home benefit the tech skills used at work, but I’m just a little person.
thanks!
