PPTP disables NIC TCP/IP

by rodlaw . Updated 25 years, 9 months ago

Running NT 4.0 server SP5 as a PDC on a Compaq Proliant 1850R. Server is running IIS and serves as a web-server. NIC is Compaq Netelligent 10/100 TX Embedded UTP/AUI, TCP/IP protocol only. RAS is installed and has a modem attached and operates properly. When I install PPTP, configure the VPN’s and reboot, all connectivity is lost to the network. The machine can only ping itself. All other local machines get a ping reply of “destination host unreachable”. I have reinstalled the service pack and rebooted but still no success. When I remove the VPN’s and PPTP and reboot, the machine works fine.

Running an identical machine with no modem, same NIC, RAS with VPN’s and NT Workstation 4.0 SP5. Both machines are running the same drivers. No problem on the workstation.
