PPTP VPN port 4545 access

We have a high end D-Link VPN router. We want some equipment within the internal network to send a TCP message on port 4545 to a workstation connected through PPTP VPN. Unfortunately we cannot even ping the outside workstation from the inside. Is this a PPTP thing or our own ignorance. Thanks guys.
