Presario 2710US will not power on

I have a Compaq Presario 2710US notebook computer running WinXP which, after a restart, will not turn back on. When the power cable is connected, the status light is lit, as usual. I have checked all connections inside and out of the computer and found no obvious problems. Any suggestions? Please let me know if any additional information is required to assist with a solution.
