Print Server Load Balancing using VIP

by switch09 . Updated 16 years, 10 months ago

I am currently in the process of developing/testing a proposed printing environment for our department and have run into a bit of an issue.

We have gone with the approach of have a network based VIP configured on a Cisco device which will forward packets to 2 identical print servers.

The servers are running Windows Server 2003 SP2.

The VIP has been configured to forward all print jobs to server 1, if not ping able jobs will be directed to server2.

If i browse to \\server1\, i do see all print queues. If i print any jobs from print server it works fine. I added a client machine and tried sending a job, that works as well.

Need help how to setup TCP\IP printer to send print jobs to VIP(Load balancer) so it it can be directed to print server.
