Print Services for Unix versus Standard TCP/IP Printing

Does anyone have any links to any documentation that can define any performance differences between LPR and Standard TCP/IP printing?

We currently use LPR ports on our 9 print servers. 3 years ago we were using Standard TCP/IP ports…things improved immediately after we made the switch.
