Print UPC bar codes-Access 97/2000

I need to display/print UPC bar codes in Access 97/2000 applications where I save the bar code in a column in a table (text column). How can I do this (preferably with free software)? And should I be including the checksum digit with the UPC barcode (Type A right now)?
