Printer mapping problem with Windows XP with SP2

by gilbert.rosadino . Updated 19 years ago

Our current platforms are in Win2K and will soon be migrating to WinXP SP2. One problem that we are experiencing is that when logging in, some of our printer mappings are failing. And this failure is very specific of the printer models which are namely HPCLJ4700n/dn, HPLJ4200n series and HPLJ4300n series. Whereas other printer models like HPLJ8100n, HPLJ4000n series, Lexmark and Phaser Tektronix map without problems. All our printers are hosted in a server and are assigned IP addresses.

Among actions we have taken to resolve the issue are (1) replace the driver for the printers and (2) configure AD policies that may affect printer mapping problems, but both failed to resolve the issue.

Please note that when a user is given local admin rights to the WinXP pc, the printer maps successfully.

Would anyone have an idea what is causing this problem?
