printers and LPT ports

I have an accounting application that requires I map my LPT ports to certain printers.
THe problem I’m having is that even if I use
net use lpt1: \\server\printer /persistent: yes
some machines consistently lose thier assigned ports.
I’m using 2000 machine and a 200 server.
Has anyonelse had this problem ?
