printing from a laserjet 1020

When I try to print from my windows to the printer, the printer makes a noise as if it is trying to print and then nothing happens. I cannot even print a test page. There is paper and the printer has been rebooted but still cannot print. no error mesgs. The printer is printing for a virtual usb port.
