Problem Accessing Desktop Folders from Broken Harddrive

by jpeterson . Updated 18 years, 7 months ago

Hello all,

My old comptuer recently was infected with a virus and would not boot, so I purchased a brand new computer. To access my files, I added the old hard drive into the new computer. The hard drive works fine, but the only problem is I cannot locate the folder I had on my desktop. All of my music/videos are in a folder called “Music” directly on the desktop. I have searched through the “Documents and Settings” and even ran a search for music on that hard drive and nothing came up.

I think it has to do with the permissions, etc. My problem isnt so much changing the ownership of the files, it is locating the actual folders and files themselves. I know they are still on the hard drive, because the drive is still full, I am just having one heck of a time locating where the files would be.

When i go to “Documents and Settings” under my user name, I could see all of the shortcuts that i had on the desktop, but no files at all.

Any help would be great.

Thanks

Jeremy
