Problem accessing event log from nt40 sp

Greetings…

Here is the scoop.. I have a workstation running nt40 sp4..

In short, i can open the event long but i can’t bring up the application log.
I get an error message that says, ” The handle is invalid”

However, I can access the security log and system log.

System consists of 6 workstations, 2 servers.
