Problem caused by a virus in WinME

This system is a gateway with Windows ME. 64MB RAM, Celeron. No PS/2, only USB. The mouse & keyboard sometimes work. Scandisk starts every time. I can only start it in Safemode. I need to edit the registry, or system to disable scandisk as otherwise it runs for ever, and I can’t cancel it when it has started (kbd & mouse dont work). Where in MSconfig are the drivers for keyboard & mouse? I need to run it with minimum drivers including CDROM , keyboard & mouse, but disable everything else including hopefully the virus.
