problem using internet?

hi everybody,
I am using windows xp and i am having problem with my internet.My internet gets automatically disconnected after some time.I am not even able to disable the lan card from network connection.When i restart my computer the internet starts working properly.
I am using my computer on a hostel LAN and i am the proxy server for sharing inetrnet.
Please help me.
