Just recently, after a re-format and reinstall of Windows 2000, I can’t seem to network with my two other windows 98 machines. My adapters are installed, I’m logged in to the network, I have the same workgroup, my IP address and subnet mask is set correctly. I can ping and tracert the other computers on the network, but an attempt to map the drives fails. When I get into my Local Area Connection, it takes forever for the Home (my workgroup) name to pop up. When I go into that, it again stalls out for about a minute or so, then says that I can’t find a list of servers in the workgroup. I have the LMHOSTS disabled, but NetBIOS enabled. I have no DNS or WINS servers designated. This computer is part of a peer-to-peer network. I can’t seem to find anything different from what I had before, but I can’t seem to contact the other computers.
