Problem with the ATI Fire GL 8800…

My display adapter (ATI Fire GL 8800) keeps causing my computer to freeze (that means everything on the screen, including the mouse cursor, stops updating) whenever i use Maya or play “Return to Castle Wolfentstein.” The only thing i can do when that happens is to reboot. this only happens sporadically with Maya, and happens every single time i play RTCW. I’ve troubleshooted with drivers and Norton says my system’s okay. I don’t know what to do.
