Problem with VPN connection and dropping internet access

I am establishing a VPN connection using Cisco VPN software with my parent company. Once I establish the connection my access to the internet drops. The parent company is not permitting access to the Internet through their network for people with a VPN connection. I have an extra NIC card in my PC. Is there a way to maintain my VPN connection and still gain access to the internet?
