problem with westell and verizon

i have a verizon modem and netgear router.
what configurations should i use to get this thing work. i think i should use a netgear modem that is dg834 that should be compatible with netgear router which is wgr614v6. can i use netgear modem instead of westell modem.
as i know there is some settings on the westell modem like bridged ethernet however these settings are not there in the netgear modem. which provides pppoa configurations. on the westell we can only use pppoe configurations.
please help me out.
