I am trying to install a LevelOne Ethernet PCMCIA adapter (network card) on my Compaq Presario 1694 notebook, Windows 98 2nd Edition. The dial-up adapter and ODI driver software seems to have installed properly, but my PC fails to recognize that there is a card in the socket. (Control panel > PC Card (PCMCIA)> Socket Empty.)
I realise there is the possiblity of a hardware fault, but I am getting the following message during start-up:
“Microsoft WorkGroups ODI/ NDI S3 Mapper Version 2.0. Error: not bound to any boards. Mapper: Initialization failure.”
I don’t understand what this means and wondered if it had any bearing on why my PC won’t recognize the card.
Thanks in advance for any light you may be able to shed!
