Problems with Printer Deployment using GP in server 2003 R2

I am currently testing and would like to use the printer management through group policy on Server 2003 R2. Everything is mostly working, just that my test group has started complaining of “no icons after logon”. I am pushing three printers to them, and a lot of the time when those users log on in the morning their computers act like they are locked up, it might take upwards of 5-10 minutes for the icons to come on to the desktop. I have removed some the users from the test printer deployment group, and the problems go way for those users I removed. Is there any way of preventing this from happening or has anyone else encountered this type of problem?
