Profile Path and Home Directory Path

Hello,

I am trying to get a few users to pull their desktop and settings off a server (this is a workgroup), but i have a question.. what is a HOME DIRECTORY and how is it different from the profile directory? Also what is the local path of their current (default) home directory so i can see what is in it. I know profile path is c:\documents and settings\username but how about the home directory path?
