We have an existing EPM implementation with no search provider enabled. I can enable the server itself as the search provider in the database settings.
However – if there is an existing, populated SharePoint Service 3.0 site structure associated with the database, is there any risk of data loss if I change the setting to associate the search service provider? It’s the sort of setting that should be made *before* the database is populated. Should the server be quiesced? Lastly – by setting the search provider, will it apply to all existing sites within the database, or only new ones?
PS The symptom of the lack of a search provider is the error “Your search cannot be completed because this site is not assigned to an indexer. Contact your administrator for more information.”
