Hello all, I am fairly new to the server side admin.
I have recently installed a fresh W2k3 R2 server (Box2) and joined it to my already existing W2k3 sp2 (Box1) domain. I installed DNS on Box2 and have it replicating from Box1 perfectly. Now I would like to promote Box2 but I am getting the error “AD installation cannot continue ….. Use Adprep …..” After looking around it sounded like I needed to run Adprep /forestprep /domainprep on Box1 which I did but it said that it has already been updated.
What else am I missing here?
Do I need to run adprep on Box2 from the 2nd R2 disk?
Do I need to upgrade Box1 to R2 somehow? Then run adprep on Box1 again?
Perhaps if someone could give me a good step by step plan of action they know of?
Notes:
Box1 currently is the only DC/AD activated server on my network.
Exchange 2003 is installed but no longer being used on Box1. I want to eventually demote Box1 completely and rebuilt IT to be used as a 2nd DC to Box2.
I have one other w2k3 server (non dc/ad) and one other w2k0 server (non dc/ad)on my network.
