Providing Laptop Repair Services

by gmichaels . Updated 23 years ago

I have recently started an on-site PC repair/maintenance business. I am finding that a lot of calls I get are laptop related. If the laptop in question is still under warranty, I usually suggest using an authorized service center so that the warranty does not end up being void. Other times I have turned down the work because I am not comfortable opening up laptops. However, in the long run I see this as a lucrative service area and would like to position myself to do this kind of repair. I alsothought I might work a marketing angle with the local hotel chains to provide on call services to their patrons. So, my question is what kinds of parts should I stock for these roqad warriors or is that too difficult given the proprietary nature of laptop designs? Also, how does one get the required laptop experience to be comfortable servicing them? I am working one angle with a local recycler to provide me laptops that are brought in for recycling so I can get some practice ripping them apartand putting them back together. Any other suggestions would be appreciated.
