PS/2 keyboard and mouse not responding

Known good PS/2 keyboard and PS/2 mouse do not respond in new W98 installation; both devices work in safe mode and outside windows. Everything else works in normal mode. When I switched to a serial mouse the PS/2 keyboard works and the appears to work. In case it helps, I am using an Asus P2B MB with newest BIOS applied. All of my hardware is on the HCL. I have tried removing and reinstalling drivers. Help me; my head hurts from banging it against the wall.
