Putting a Gateway ATA/IDE 80G HD into SATA External Case

Ok, please forgive me… here is what I have:

1) 80G Hitachi Travelstar 2.5″ HD ATA/IDE from a Gateway laptop.

2) 2.5″ SATA External Case USB 2.0

The case component that should hook up to the HD is not a match, so I am wondering if I am missing a component, have the wrong thing, or am just blind. Please go to http://www.barnesvilleareahelpers.org/dave/ for images (if needed) of the items I am talking about.
