Raid Disaster and corrupt .bkf file

by jonaanderson . Updated 19 years ago

I have had the worst happed this weekend.

I got a call from a small office I help with their PC management.

They use a power edge server 600SC IDE Raid controller (R5 3 120 gig drives). The 2nd drive failed (I was unaware of the 1st failure). The Raid software stated Physical Drives 0 and 1 were offline. I put drive 0 online and I tried to rebuild drive 1 but it failed.

Does the data get overwritten during the rebuild? Did the failed rebuild destroy the data on the #1 drive?

I bought a new drive and tried to rebuild drive 1 again, again it failed. I connected the new drive in the #1 spot and the rebuild was successful. The system still did not boot, No bootable disk found.

What have I done? Is there any hope?

To top this off the latest ms restore states .bkf file is unusable.

Any suggestions, past stories?

Thanks
LJ
