RAID vs. Legato’s backup StandbyServer

We have a Novell 4.11 network with backup server software Standby Server (and Snapshot Server). We want to upgrade the primary and backup servers to Novell 5. We would also have to upgrade the Legato products as well. Would we be better off doing that or “switch gears” by investing in an IBM, Dell, or HP server with RAID system? Which is better?
